On Wednesday, a Vilnius court will open hearings into the case surrounding the 13 January 1991 attempted coup, which is one of the biggest trials in Lithuania's history in terms of the size and the number of suspects.
The day of the Defenders of Freedom was commemorated in Lithuania on Tuesday to honour January 13, 1991, the anniversary of the defenders of Lithuanian freedom and the victims of Soviet aggression. Bonfires were burning all around Lithuania as a reminder of the day when the country’s freedom was defended on January 13, 1991.
On the evening of 13 January 1991, journalist Eglė Bučelytė was broadcasting from the Lithuanian Radio and Television studio in Vilnius when Soviet paratroopers broke into the building to cut off her live broadcast. With the approach of that significant day's 25th anniversary, Bučelytė spoke to Delfi about her experiences.
