EU agreed on postponement of Ukraine pact with safeguards against future Russian pressure

Ambassadors of European Union (EU) member-states on Thursday finalized positions on postponement of the free trade agreement with Ukraine. The document incorporates safeguards, suggested by Lithuania, intended to curb Russia's future pressure, Lithuania's ambassador says.
The Lithuanian government's decision to divide the country into two separate regions to obtain more funds from the EU after 2020 may fail to bring the expected benefits, a senior European Commission official warned in an interview with BNS.
Lithuanian President Dalia Grybauskaitė plans to attend a memorial ceremony for former German Chancellor Helmut Kohl in the eastern French city of Strasbourg on Saturday, her press office has told BNS.
