In Tel Aviv the deputy minister met with representatives of organisations of Lithuanian expatriates - Beit Vilna, Igud Jocei Lita and Izraelita as well as honorary consuls of Lithuania in Israel. Bekešius introduced Lithuania's initiatives in preserving the Jewish cultural heritage in Lithuania, as well as educational and commemoration projects on Holocaust. On the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the end of the Second World War, Bekešius presented Prime Minister Algirdas Butkevičius' letter of appreciation to participants of the Second World War who reside in Israel.
The meeting also discussed the congress of Litvaks, Lithuanian Jews, which will take place in Tel Aviv on 21-22 October. Deputy Foreign Minister Bekešius invited to actively participate in the events that will take place in Lithuania in September: the Jewish Culture Days in Žagarė and the conference marking the 90th anniversary of YIVO Institute for Jewish Research.
The World Lithuanian Economic Forum (PLEF) should take place in Israel on 19-21 October.
