Websites of the Lithuanian government, ministries and e-government are offline on Monday due to faults in electricity supplies.

Spokesman for distribution grids operator Energijos Skirstymo Operatorius (ESO) said the malfunction was caused by decrepit electricity cables., while the head of the Information Society Development Committee says the committee's servers are down after blackout at the data center of Statistics Lithuania.

"This has had a respective effect on our servers, we are their clients (…), therefore, we are forced to reload and reconfigure our servers. Our preliminary calculation is that the connection should be restored within three hours – by 11 a.m. (local time)," the committee's director Ramūnas Čepaitis told BNS.

In his words, experts are now working to establish whether the incident caused some of the information stored on the servers to be lost.

Meanwhile, Martynas Burba, spokesman for ESO, told BNS that operations of institutions in central Vilnius had been interrupted on Monday morning due to a fault in electricity supplies.

"Cable lines went offline at 6 a.m. this morning, the interruptions could be felt by 600 clients. Electricity supplies were restored at 7:40 a.m.," Burba told BNS.

In his words, the causes of the malfunctions are technical.

"This was probably due to worn-out cables, we plan to repair them later this week," said Burba.
