Cyber attackers distorted the votes of Visaginas Mayor Dalia Straupaitė on the voting of Mayor of the Year organized by alfa.lt news portal in Lithuania, giving her more than 2,000 negative votes.

Nerius Gasparavičius, CEO of Alfa Media that operates the portal, told BNS that the incident had occurred in early hours of Friday.

"At 00:25 a.m. this morning, she (the mayor of Visaginas) suddenly received more than 2,000 negative votes," said the businessman. "I see this as a cyber attack."

In his words, specialists are currently working to track down the method of hacking of the portal's systems.
