US President Barack Obama has announced that the US will extend its sanctions against Russia for another year. The sanctions were initially implemented in March of 2014 response to the annexation of Crimea and the destabilisation of Ukraine.

At the Munich Security Conference in February, US Secretary of State John Kerry announced that the sanctions on Russia would continue until all of the conditions of the Minsk agreement, drafted to end the conflict in Eastern Ukraine, were met.

In an official statement, the Kremlin indicated that it "regrets" the US' decision.
