These radio programs have been transmitted from the Sitkūnai station near Kaunas since 2000.The United States will also provide the Lithuanian government with a modern 200 kW transmitter to help combat Russia's propaganda efforts in the region and step up communication in Russia, Ukraine and other countries in the region, the ministry said in a press release.

The current transmitter in Sitkūnai, which has been in operation for several decades now, has a capacity of 75 kW.

Lithuanian Foreign Minister Linas Linkevičius and John Lansing, the CEO of BBG, discussed possibilities for increasing the resilience of Central and Eastern European societies to Russian-controlled media propaganda during their meeting in Washington on Thursday.

The minister also met with Victoria Nuland, Assistant Secretary of State at the US Department of State. The officials underlined the importance of the upcoming NATO summit and the determination of Lithuania and the US to seek ambitious decisions on the Alliance's adaptation to a changed security environment.

Linkevičius also discussed security challenges and the importance of an increased US military presence in Europe with Anna Makanju, Special Advisor to US Vice President Joe Biden, and Jim Townsend, Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense.
