"I believe the American officials' very clear statement about their commitments has dispelled the doubts that Europe had," Martynas Lukoševičius, the president's foreign policy adviser, said on the Žinių Radijas radio station on Tuesday.

"I think that there are now fewer of the questions that someone had, rightly or wrongly," the diplomat added.

US President Donald Trump last week sent his vice-president, Mike Pence, and two top ministers to Europe to reassure allies that the new administration would stand by US commitments to NATO and European security

At the same time, the US vice-president said that Washington expected NATO allies to make "real progress" in stepping up their defense spending by the end of the year.
