The Lithuanian Social Democratic Party's (LSDP) ethics commission and its presidium will discuss the behavior of the party's lawmakers who signed a deal with the Lithuanian Farmers and Greens Union (LFGU) despite the party's decision to withdraw from the ruling coalition, LSDP Chairman Gintautas Paluckas said on Monday.

"The (party's) statute sets out everything very clearly. Should any member fail to comply with the party's decision, he or she has two options: either not to impede the implementation of the party's decision or the Ethics and Procedures Commission will assess what impact this has on the party's reputation, authority and so on," the chairman told reporters.

"The issue will be undoubtedly discussed by the party's Ethics and Procedures Commission and the presidium," he said.

According to Paluckas, the lawmakers may face a warning, reprimand or expulsion from the party.

"You wonder whose head is going to roll right away, but this is an extreme measure that is used infrequently. I respect (Foreign Minister) Linas Linkevicius, who, seeing that his position runs counter to that of the party, decided to leave the party and thus solved all the issues", Paluckas said.

The LSDP Council decided to pull out of the ruling coalition over the weekend, but 10 out of 17 members of the party's political group in the Seimas voted on Monday to continue cooperation with the LFGU.
