Under the draft resolutions, Lithuania will likely elect municipal councils on March 3, its next president on May 12 and members of the European Parliament on May 26.

The dates are expected to be officially announced next week after the resolutions have been discussed by the Seimas committees.

The draft resolution on municipal elections will come into effect on November 7, marking the official start of the election campaigning period.

Campaigning for the presidential and European Parliament elections will likely begin on November 12 and November 26, respectively.

Members of municipal councils and mayors are elected for four years. The last municipal elections in Lithuania were held on March 1, 2015.

The president is elected for a term of five years. Dalia Grybauskaitė was elected president in 2009 and re-elected for her second term in 2014.

Lithuania currently elects 11 members of the European Parliament for a term of five years.
