Tomas Cepelionis of the Vilnius Regional Prosecutor's Office, the prosecutor in charge of the investigation, told BNS that a court would consider sanctioning the arrest of the suspect on Tuesday afternoon.

"We think he may flee, hide and coęaby his initials R. K., is a Russian citizen born in 1968, officials said.

"We have a copy of his passport in the case-file. He is a Russian citizen who was to be deported back to Russia as a foreigner refused a residence permit in Lithuania or declined renewal. He had repeatedly applied to the Migration Department to have his permanent residence permit renewed," Cepelionis told BNS.

The Russian citizen is suspected of injuring four people with a knife during an attempted robbery at the store in Jonazoliu Street, in the capital's Lazdyneliai neighborhood.

"He has made no statement yet. He refuses to speak," Cepelionis said.

According to the prosecutor, the suspect will be subjected to a psychiatric examination. He was sober during the incident, based on preliminary information.

At around 10:00 p.m. on Sunday, a man wielding a knife attempted to rob the Lazdyneliai store and injured four staff members who tried to stop him.

Two men, aged 19 and 40 years, suffered stab wounds and a 28-year-old man was beaten. All three were hospitalized.

The fourth employee, a 42-year-old woman, was wounded in the neck and is being treated at home.

Officials will also look at whether the same Russian citizen may be involved in an arson attack on Vilnius' Ikea store at around 9 p.m. on Sunday.

"If we see that the same person is responsible, we'll merge the investigations," Cepelionis told BNS.
