"2014 marked a marked increase in intensity of the attempts by the Belarusian State Security Committee (KGB) and the Belarusian State Border Committee (VPK) to recruit officers of Lithuanian law-enforcement institutions traveling to Belarus," the department said in a report of national security threats presented on Monday.

"Officers of territorial units of the State Border Guard Service and the Interior Ministry going to Belarus on a regular basis for cheaper goods or other work unrelated purposes were an especially 'convenient' target of Belarusian security services," reads the document.

According to the report, Belarus' special services have a particular interest in information about territorial units of the Lithuanian border service and the police: personnel, numbers of officers, premises, vehicles, technical measures of border protection, etc.

The department said the Lithuanian citizens who crossed the Lithuanian border last year were actively asked and recruited by Russia's Federal Security Service, as well. The service was "performing aggressive intelligence activities against the State Border Guard Service, collecting economic, military and political information in Lithuania's border districts, recruiting Lithuanian businessmen working in Russia, employees of Lithuanian-capital companies and law-enforcement officers."
