"The guests will be invited to observe a demo military operation by NATO forces: ground-based air defense systems of every participating ally will be positioned on the demonstration field and airspace defense against aircraft will be simulated," the Defense Ministry said in a press release.

The US has for the first time deployed Patriot long-range anti-aircraft missiles in Lithuania to take part in the war games.

Also attending the visitors' day of Tobruq Legacy 2017 at the Šiauliai base are Defense Minister Raimundas Karoblis, Deputy Defense Minister Vytautas Umbrasas and Land Force Commander Brigadier General Valdemaras Rupšys.

Tobruq Legacy 2017 is taking place concurrently in Lithuania, the Czech Republic and Romania. The drills in Lithuania involve around 500 troops and 30 air defense systems from Lithuania and another four NATO member states.

Air defense is one of the Baltic region's weakest spots in terms of defense.
