At Friday's meeting with Minister of Economy and acting Prime Minister Evaldas Gustas and Minister of Agriculture Virginija Baltraitienė, President Dalia Grybauskaitė noted that Russia had become a completely unreliable and unpredictable business partner.

As a result, the economic situation should be calmly considered and opportunities for Lithuanian production exports and assistance to businesses should be provided so that the country's economy would suffer as little as possible.

"Last year, exports of agriculture and food products of Lithuanian origin to Russia accounted only for 1 percent of total exports of Lithuanian goods. Carriers and milk producers may face more difficulties. It is not a new Russian lesson for both of them," said the president.

According to the president, the current situation should encourage Lithuanian businesspeople to immediately look for new markets and work towards flexible solutions. "The Lithuanian entrepreneurship has withstood greater hardships and only became stronger after that," said Grybauskaitė.

The president instructed the ministers of economy and agriculture to assess the situation together with representatives of the business community and to provide every type of support in searching for alternative markets.
