On Friday, President Dalia Grybauskaitė promoted graduates of General Jonas Žemaitis Military Academy to their first officer's rank.

"By taking an oath, you have assumed responsibility for the people of the country and future generations, for your parents and relatives. You are trusted with something that is most precious, with the freedom of Lithuania. Therefore, you have to be the best," said the president in a statement.

According to Grybauskaitė, the oaths have been taken in exceptional times, when security situation in the region and entire Europe is changing. Therefore, importance, responsibility and necessity of soldier's profession are remembered once again.

The president wished the officers to be always proud of being Lithuanian soldiers and set an example of patriotism to all Lithuanians.
