Republican presidential frontrunner Donald Trump has made many controversial statements during his campaign, but one that made Europe and the Baltic States sit up and listen concerned NATO and the United States' security assurances to its European allies.

Trump has said that NATO is "obsolete" and that other members of the alliance do not pay in their fair share, even suggesting that he would be fine if the alliance broke up.

Lithuania's Foreign Minister Linas Linkevičius commented that Trump's take on NATO is in line with statements coming from Russia, which is seen by Lithuania as the biggest security threat.

The prospect of Trump securing the Republican Party's nomination and, potentially, winning the US presidency is likely to have implications for security in the Baltic States. What do you think these implications will be?
