Prime Minister Saulius Skvernelis thinks that Viačeslav Titov, a Klaipėda City Council member representing the Union of Russians in Lithuania, deserves to be impeached after he falsely accused Adolfas Ramanauskas-Vanagas, a commander of Lithuanian partisans who fought against the Soviet occupation, of killing innocent civilians.

I think so," Skvernelis told the Žinių Radijas radio station on Thursday when asked if Titov deserved to be impeached.

"He is a member of the Council of Klaipėda and it's up to the council to decide. Such statements deserve (impeachment)," he added.

The prime minister thinks that a diversity of opinions is not justification for making such false statements.

"I think we can't say that this is talking nonsense or a diversity of opinions. There has to be a diversity of opinions, but there are certain limits, too, when it comes to tolerance and fundamental things," he said.

Skvernelis described Vaišvila's flour attack on Titov as unacceptable.

"It's totally unacceptable to use such methods against one's opponent," he said.

The City Council of Klaipėda has initiated impeachment proceedings against Titov and prosecutors have already launched an investigation into the politician's claims, which he said were based on a Soviet court’s documents.
