Out of them, 86 cases involved children, and the disease was also diagnosed to 311 adults, with the largest number of cases (260) recorded in Lithuania's central Kaunas County.

The outbreak of measles has been monitored in Lithuania since November when around 30 people fell ill with measles in the eastern city of Visaginas, and the number of cases has been growing ever since. Before November, only two people had measles in Lithuania.

The largest outbreaks of measles are being monitored in Madagascar (68,000 cases) and Ukraine (over 21,000 cases). Specialists warn Lithuanians going abroad to get immunized against measles.

Figures from the World Health Organization show 2.6 million death from measles were recorded every year until 1980. Last year, some 110,000 people died from measles all over the world.
