Taliban fighters staged a suicide attack on April 19 in Kabul. No Lithuanian soldiers participating in the NATO mission Resolute Support in Afghanistan were injured, the Ministry of National Defence has said.

Lithuanian soldiers are in the NATO base where security has been heightened following the attack.

There are currently 16 Lithuanian soldiers serving in Afghanistan. Lithuanian soldiers teach and provide advice to the Afghan national security forces. The Lithuanians serve in three cities: Kabul, Kandahar and Herat.

At present, NATO's mission in Afghanistan consists of about 12,000 troops.
