Karbauskis also announced that the Social Democrats will propose candidates for the posts of Justice, Economy and Foreign Affairs ministers. It had been reported that the Social Democrats would be given the posts of ministers for Justice, Foreign Affairs and Social Security and Labour, however the ‘Peasants’ exchanged the Social Security and Labour portfolio for that of Economy minister.

The leader of the Social Democratic Prime Minister Algirdas Butkevičius said to the journalists that ‘We had a discussion at the political level and agreed that we would like to head the Ministry of Economy. We believe that our candidate will be acceptable to the (new) Prime Minister.’

Unoficial DELFI sources say that the current Minister of Foreign Affairs Linas Linkevičius should retain his position, Julius Sabatauskas or Darius Petrošius should lead the Ministry of Justice. According to the same sources, the rising star of the Social Democratic Party, the Mayor of Jonava, Mindaugas Sinkevičius, could become the Minister of Economy.

Social Democrats should also get two Deputy Seimas’ Speaker positions. One of them should go to the PM Buktevičius. Gediminas Kirkilas or Algirdas Sysas should be getting the other Deputy Seimas Speaker’s chair. Still, if MP Kirkilas to remain as the Chairman of the Seimas Committee of the European Affairs in the new Seimas, he would be content with this arrangement. According to the same sources Mr. Butkevičius would prefer this scenario.
