The US official touched upon the possibility to deploy permanent NATO military bases in the Baltic States or Poland.

"We purposefully deployed F-15 fighter jets in Lithuania, now they are replaced by aircraft of European countries. 150 airborne forces troops have been stationed here. We want to be sure that the presence of US military will send a very clear message that NATO and the US have come to support Lithuania's territorial integrity, freedom and independence," the senator said.

Senator Nelson informed that he just arrived from Ukraine where energy and military security matters, important both to Kiev and Vilnius, were discussed.

According to Nelson, the US supports Ukraine and soon Washington will be able to provide military assistance as well. Although the US administration has not made such decision yet, but it will be informed about the senator's visit.
