NATO's fighter-jets patrolling Baltic airspace were scrambled six times last week to intercept Russian military aircraft in international airspace over the Baltic Sea, the Lithuanian Defense Ministry said on Monday.

Most of the Russian aircraft were transport or military passenger planes. There were also several Russian fighters.

The majority flew over the Baltic Sea without using their onboard transponders.

The NATO air-policing mission is conducted from Lithuania and Estonia.
