NATO's fighter-jets patrolling Baltic airspace were scrambled six times last week to intercept Russian military aircraft in international airspace over the Baltic Sea, the Lithuanian Defense Ministry said on Monday.

The Russian aircraft included military transport planes and an Il-22 bomber.

Some of the aircraft flew with their onboard transponders switched off.

The NATO air-policing mission is conducted from Lithuania and Estonia.
