"Polish fighter jets scrambled to intercept Russian fighter jets that were flying above neutral waters of the Baltic Sea near Estonia," Asta Galdikaitė, spokeswoman for the Defense Ministry, told BNS.

Polish airmen who are heading the Baltic air-policing mission for the fifth time say that they are faced with increasing activity of Russian Air Force in the region with every shift.

Lieutenant Colonel Piotr Wyrembski, deputy chief of the mission, told BNS last week that the Polish jets in most cases have to escort Russian warplanes flying from Russia's northern part to the Kaliningrad enclave.

In his words, this can be explained by increased frequency of Russian war games and reinforced Air Force.
