President Vladimir Putin's political party won 55 percent of votes of the Russian citizens who came to the polls, Russia's embassy to Vilnius told BNS on Monday.

According to the embassy, around 10,000 of Russian citizens living in Lithuania were eligible to vote in the elections and 2,770 turned out to the polls.

The Communist Party won 14.7 of the votes and the Liberal Democratic Party got 8.4 percent. The results are yet to be confirmed by Russia's Central Election Commission.

The embassy gave no information as to how the rest of the Russian citizens voted.

Russian citizens could cast their votes at polling stations in four Lithuanian cities and towns, including Vilnius, Klaipėda, Šiauliai and Visaginas.

With 90 percent of ballots in the Russian parliamentary elections counted, official figures showed United Russia receiving 54.2 percent of the votes, well ahead of the Communist Party with 13.5 percent and the Liberal Democratic Party with 13.3 percent. Fair Russia also passed the 5 percent barrier to enter the State Duma.
