Lithuania's public broadcaster LRT must be resistant to political pressure and influence of interest groups, the country's President Dalia Grybauskaitė says.

She said she has not yet looked into the conclusions of a special parliamentary commission that probed LRT's financial and economic activity.

"The president only evaluates specific legal proposals by the Seimas. The Seimas investigation commission has only published its political opinion," the presidential press service said in a commentary sent to BNS Lithuania.

"But any legal regulation related to the public broadcaster must comply with the constitutional doctrine based on which the public broadcaster's independence must be ensured to avoid interference into its activity by state institutions, officials and other persons," the president said.

The parliamentary commission on Wednesday approved conclusions proposing changes to LRT's management structure and the procedure for setting up its council.
