Lithuania's Central Electoral Commission will Monday consider the plea filed by MP Mindaugas Bastys to revoke his mandate.

After the failed impeachment, Bastys last week submitted resignation, saying he did not want to affect the parliament's performance.

Bastys won his mandate in Zanavykų single-mandate constituency, which includes Šakiai and a few polling stations in the districts of Kaunas and Vilkaviškis.

Lithuania's parliament last week came a dozen votes short of stripping Bastys of his mandate over concealed ties with a former KGB agent.

The Constitutional Court had ruled that the lawmaker grossly violated the Constitution and breached the oath.

After the failed impeachment ballot, parliamentary groups started blaming each other. A few thousand people last week gathered outside the parliament in protest against the decision to leave Bastys in parliament.
