Lithuanian soldiers of the 1st Territorial Unit, Dainava Military District, National Defense Volunteer Force will be decorated in the southern city of Alytus on Wednesday for their participation in the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali (MINUSMA).

34 professional soldiers and members of the volunteer force from the third rotation of the Lithuanian Armed Forces Force Protection Unit will be decorated with medals, the Ministry of National Defense said.

They carried out protection functions four months within the German contingent. They were replaced by a fourth rotation of the Armed Forces Force Protection Unit.

Multinational Integrated Stabilization Mission, MINUSMA, is a United Nations peacekeeping and stability mission launched in 2013 to stabilize the country, support the implementation of the interim period action plan, protect civilian population, promote and defend human rights, contribute to delivering humanitarian aid, help preserve cultural heritage, and ensure justice at national and international levels.
