Lithuanian prosecutors said on Friday they had dropped an investigation into the actions of lawmaker Artūras Skardžius after almost a year.

"The evidence collected during the pre-trial investigation let us conclude that Seimas member Skardžius has not committed any criminal action by submitting proposals on the amendments to the Law on Energy from Renewable Resources," a statement said.

The probe was launched in response to a request by several lawmakers stating that Skardžius' family had leased land for wind farms under exceptional conditions and Skardžius also submitted proposals on renewable energy resources.

Now prosecutor say the pre-trial investigation found no evidence Skardžius took any active action to influence the land lease contract.

The prosecutors said the change in payments for land were determined by the land lease contract and bilateral agreement which was not exceptional and more favorable in comparison to other land lease contracts in that area.

Prosecutors also concluded that the amendments to the Law on Energy from Renewable Resources, proposed by Skardžius, did not cause any negative consequences as they were rejected by parliamentary committees and never reached the power of law.

The impeachment procedure has been launched against Skardžius in the parliament in response to these allegations but the special panel has not made any decision yet on Skardžius' any constitutional violations or breach of oath.

Skardžius is a member of the Social Democratic Party of Lithuania's political group.
