In her words, more US troops and equipment will be stationed in Lithuania during the training.

"The increased presence of the military, doubling of the air-policing and more US troops, equipment and vessels here during the Zapad training indicates special attention to our region," Grybauskaitė said in an interview broadcast on Monday.

The NATO air-policing mission is currently conducted from Lithuania and Estonia by four fighter-jets in each country. The United States, which is due to take over the mission in Šiauliai, northern Lithuania, at the beginning of September, will bring eight jets.
