Lithuania's law-enforcement have dropped the investigation into the allegations that MP Linas Balsys drove under the influence of alcohol, as officers failed to collect enough evidence to validate his guilt, prosecutor Egidijus Motiejūnas told BNS.

The breathalyzer used by journalists showed 1.82 per mille blood alcohol content, however, the showing was not saved in the memory of the device, furthermore, VIP Protection Department officials questioned in the case did not confirm seeing Balsys leave the parliament building, board his automobile and drive off.

The investigation into suspicions that Balsys drove his VW Caddy while drunk was opened on Nov. 13. The MP was not questioned, as he enjoys legal immunity.

A few days after the incident, Balsys' family announced he was under the care of doctors and his family.

The scandal had a drastic effect on the MP's popularity rating.

Balsys of the Lithuanian Greens Union was elected for two terms in 2012 and 2016 after working as adviser to Lithuania's President Dalia Grybauskaitė and journalist.
