On Wednesday, Lithuanian Prime Minister Algirdas Butkevičius welcomed Dag Malmer Halvorsen, ambassador of the Kingdom of Norway, in Vilnius.

The PM and the ambassador discussed bilateral economic cooperation, possibilities to use the Lithuanian transport and logistics infrastructure, and the Klaipėda liquefied natural gas terminal project, the prime minister's press service said.

"I am happy to welcome you at the office of the Government of Lithuania. I am sure we will enjoy a fruitful future cooperation and I wish you a successful term in office in Vilnius," Butkevičius said in his address.

The PM pointed out the growing cooperation between Lithuania and Norway over the recent years. The 31 December 2013 data show that Norwegian direct investment in Lithuania amounted to LTL 2.66 billion (EUR 771 million); Norway is the fifth-biggest source of foreign direct investment in Lithuania.

The prime minister and the ambassador noted the recent decision of Lindorff to open a service centre in Vilnius, which will serve company customers in Scandinavia and Western Europe.

With a view to promoting closer business cooperation, Butkevičius invited to consider the services of the Lithuanian railway container train Viking. The prime minister stressed that the benefits of the train is the time, simplified customs procedures and tariffs for transportation.

The prime minister and the Norwegian ambassador also welcomed the final stages of the Klaipėda LNG terminal project. Butkevičius extended his invitation to Norwegian EU Affairs Minister Vidar Helgesen to come to the opening ceremony of the LNG terminal on 27 October.
