Prime Minister Algirdas Butkevičius does not relinquish plans to apply to prosecutors over LTL 400 million (EUR 116 million) which were squandered in the energy sector. He is also not worried about the comments made by opposition leader conservative Andrius Kubilius that the prime minister's wife could have been responsible for the situation.

"It is sadder and sadder to listen to Mr Kubilius' words with every day," he said on the radio Žinių Radijas on Thursday morning.

Butkevičius said that his wife Janina Butkevičienė lost her post at the supervisory council of the Lithuanian Power Plant when the conservative-led government started its term in 2008.

"It is very strange to see Kubilius so worried, maybe he should better take care of his mother-in-law, to see where money of certain funds is flowing to. My wife in 2009 was dismissed from the Energy Ministry, before that she worked in the supervisory council (of the Lithuanian Power Plant - Elta). However, Mr Arvydas Sekmokas (former energy minister - Elta), a rather strange person to my mind, forgot to cross her out from the supervisors' list and her name stayed there probably until late 2010 without noticing that she had stopped working at the Energy Ministry a long time ago. She did not take part in any meeting nor was invited to," the PM said.
