French Ambassador to Lithuania Maryse Berniau informed the deputy Seimas speaker about the news in a letter.

The ambassador's letter says that MP Kirkilas was given the honourable distinction for his important contribution in the creation of the European Union and his "continuous commitment to work as tirelessly as possible while implementing the union's policies". The ambassador also stressed that this is a way for France to thank Kirkilas for his deep commitment to the values uniting the EU.
