Auštrevičius is Chairman of the Group of Friends of European Ukraine in the European Parliament. The award was bestowed by Patriarch Filaret, head of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church.

"It is an honour to receive the award from the hands of a spiritual leader, the greatest patriot of Ukraine, Patriarch Filaret. A conversation with Filaret was certainly encouraging - we were told that all today's hardships and challenges are surmountable," said Auštrevičius.

Members of the Group of Friends of European Ukraine - representatives of the largest European Parliament groups from Belgium, Luxembourg, the Czech Republic, Estonia and Lithuania - went on a formal visit to Ukraine.
