The clinic's director general Kęstutis Strupas told reporters on Thursday that Požela's condition was improving.

"He is in a severe but stable condition, there is a tendency of improvement," Strupas said.

The minister remains in intensive care.

"He has been diagnosed with acute pancreatitis of biliary origin," said Strupas.

Požela was admitted to hospital with a gastro-intestinal disorder and stomach pains.
