The Government of Lithuania on Tuesday approved the appointment of former Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Vytautas Leškevičius as ambassador to the Council of Europe.

He is to assume the position as of 11 August.

Before becoming vice-minister, Leškevičius served as political director at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and earlier was Lithuania's deputy permanent representative on the North Atlantic Council.

In Lithuania, ambassadors are appointed by the president upon the nomination of the government.
