"The transportation of goods with TIR carnets to Russia is important not only to Lithuanian companies, but also to those in Poland and Latvia. We are currently waiting for a list of customs posts included into the TIR system to be published," Heliodoras Giedrys, head of the TIR Department at the Lithuanian national road haulers' association Linava, told BNS.

"Reportedly, these posts will be chosen based on their infrastructure and freight traffic intensity," he said.

If Sebezh on the Latvian-Belarusian border, Narva on the Estonian-Russian border or Sovetsk on Lithuania's border with the Russian exclave of Kaliningrad are on the list, that will be very good news for haulers, meaning a recovery of the TIR system, he said.

The exact list is expected to be published on Saturday, but Giedrys told BNS that it had not been published yet.

The International Road Transport Union (IRU) has welcomed Russia's decision. The United Nations TIR Administrative Committee has also confirmed the news about the restoration of the TIR system in Russia.

Russia stopped accepting TIR carnets almost two years ago, which has led to increased queues at its border-crossing points.
