The Foreign Ministry considers accusations of spying made against Kohver politically motivated and expresses solidarity with Estonia, Kohver's family and all the people of Estonia.

This severe provocation with respect to Estonia when the Estonian state border was violated, its territory was invaded and the official then on duty was kidnapped using weapons and force, and taken to the Russian Federation must be investigated without delay and thoroughly, and the persons responsible for this provocation must be held accountable, the ministry said.

In the statement, the ministry says that it regrets that diplomatic efforts to liberate Kohver from illegal detention in the Russian Federation have not given any results thus far and urges the Russian authorities to take immediate steps to release the official.
