Lithuanian Defence Minister Juozas Olekas opened NATO week in Kiev on Monday and agreed to bring 11 wounded Ukrainian soldiers to Lithuania for rehabilitation.

Olekas also met with Ukrainian Defence Minister Stepan Poltorak and discussed further cooperation between Lithuania and Ukraine. During the meeting, an agreement on training and advisory program development was signed.

“This agreement will be the basis to develop and implement such military training and advisory programs, which are currently relevant to strengthen the Ukrainian army. You stand for our values, so Europe will not abandon you,” said Olekas at the T. Shevchenko University.

During official visits to the National University of Defense of Ukraine and the Ministry of Defence Olekas underlined that from the very beginning of Russian military aggression against the Ukraine, Lithuania had always actively supported Ukraine's independence and was going to continue to support Ukraine by all possible means.

The ministers reached a symbolic agreement on the rehabilitation of 11 Ukrainian soldiers in Lithuania.

Ministry of Defence annually flies about 50 soldiers from Ukraine and are provided with wellness programs at the soldiers’ rehabilitation centre in Druskininkai and other Lithuanian public health institutions.
