Lithuania wants to establish diplomatic relations with the Western African Republic of Guinea-Bissau.

A draft resolution of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will authorize Lithuanian Ambassador to the United Nations Raimonda Murmokaitė to sign a joint communiqué on the establishment of diplomatic relations.

According to the ministry, the establishment of diplomatic relations with Guinea-Bissau will assist Lithuania in expanding its tourism geography, create favourable condition for Lithuanian business and non-governmental organizations engaged in activities in the African country. Moreover, it will facilitate provision of assistance to Lithuanian citizens in case of emergency, especially Lithuanian seamen as Guinea-Bissau is on the Atlantic coast.
