The document was signed in Tallinn during an informal meeting of European Union (EU) ministers of justice and interior affairs, the Lithuanian Interior Ministry said.

"We agreed with the Italian minister that officials will be able to attend interviews with refugees due to be relocated to Lithuania. They will also have access to other information needed for checks of the individuals. Italians understand that security is our priority," Misiūnas said in a press release.

In the framework of the EU program, Lithuania has relocated 349 refugees from Italy, Greece and Turkey. The majority of them have already left the country.

Nearly two years ago, Lithuania has committed to receiving 1,105 refugees originating in countries, such as Syria, Iraq and Eritrea.
