Lithuania needs real changes, not imitation of reforms, President Dalia Grybauskaitė said in her greeting message to the parliament on the start of the new fall session.

"The time is good, as the carousel of general elections has not yet started. We need actual changes, not imitation of reforms. It is important to make decisions that would boost the collection of the budget, slash shadow economy and corruption – these are the factors that prevent people from living better lives in their country," Grybauskaitė said in her message read by Parliamentary Speaker Viktoras Pranckietis on Sunday.

In her words, "the spring session taught the ruling majority a few political lessons that communication and search for compromise may yield better results than imposed will or bulldozed decisions."

On Sunday, the parliament opened its fall session that will close on December 23.
