Moreover, a Lithuanian officer will be assigned to the NATO CI COE based in Krakow, Poland, the Ministry of National Defence reports.

The Memorandum of Understanding on the establishment of the NATO Counter Intelligence Centre of Excellence with Poland and Slovakia as Framework Nations (FN) was signed at a ceremony in Norfolk (USA) on 29 September by FN and SN representatives, including a representative of Lithuania Colonel Romualdas Petkevičius, National Liaison Representative for Transformation at the Headquarters, Supreme Allied Commander Transformation (HQ SACT), located in Norfolk.

Other Sponsoring Nations for the NATO CI COE are the Czech Republic, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Romania, Slovenia and Croatia.

This is the 24th NATO Centre of Excellence, 21 out of which are already accredited, including the Energy Security Centre of Excellence (NATO ENSEC COE) in Vilnius.

As the primary hub of NATO expertise in military counter-intelligence, the new COE aims to expand the capabilities of the Alliance and its member nations to enhance NATO counter-intelligence and improve interoperability. The Centre will accelerate NATO adaptation and operations by supporting the development, promotion and implementation of new policies, concepts, strategies and doctrine.
