"Discussions are in progress. As a matter of fact, we have to admit that there is a certain gap when it comes to the Land Forces and the Special Operations Forces. And airborne support is airborne support," Karoblis said at a conference of 15min.lt portal on Friday.

Lithuania does not have combat helicopters so far.

The minister said that search-and-rescue helicopters would still be a priority.

Lithuania's Armed Forces currently operates five helicopters, namely, three AS365 Dauphin and two Mi – 8T.

All of the Dauphins and one Mi – 8T are designed for search-and-rescue efforts, while the remaining Mi - 8T is intended for the army's general needs.
