"We would like to convey our deepest condolences to the families and friends of the victims, as well as all people of Israel," the ministry said in a letter on Tuesday afternoon.

The Lithuanian ministry also urged all parties to refrain from any actions that would instigate violence and put off peace.

"It is crucial to prevent possible spread of disturbances. We urge to resume the talks without delay on the decision of the two countries and refrain from unilateral actions that would escalate tensions or impede resumption of negotiations," said the minister.

A message of condolences to Israel's Knesset Speaker Yuli Edelstein and Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman was also sent by the chairman of the Lithuanian parliament's Group for Interparliamentary Relations with the Israeli Knesset, Emanuelis Zingeris.

"We strongly condemn the horrific terrorist attack against the people of Israel, which was carried out during the morning prayer in a synagogue in western Jerulasem this morning. We strongly support Jews and their right to safety and defense, as well as peaceful living in the land of Israel," Zingeris said in his letter.

Two Palestinians carrying a firearm and meat cleavers entered a Jerusalem synagogue on Tuesday morning and killed four Israeli nationals before being gunned down.
