Lithuania's first post-independence leader Vytautas Landsbergis says that the current security situation in the country is worse than back when Lithuania was fighting for independence 27 years ago.

"We are as unsafe as never before, as the threats have changed," Landsbergis said at a meeting of freedom defenders in the historic March 11 hall at the parliament on Friday.

He said this was because "the old aggressor is about to reach the limit of insanity, there are no boundaries between a direct war and an indirect war."
