In 2015 new cars sales in Lithuania grew by nearly a fifth, but one brand’s sales plummeted. Lada sales shrank by whopping 81.2% with only two Russian-made Lada cars bought in the whole of Lithuania.

“Their reliability is poor and there is no prestige to drive a Lada. Poor relations with neighbours also do not help,” said Gražvyda Davidavičius, the head of Data Center that records data on new car registrations.

This in contrast to some other Baltic States. Lada’s popularity grew hugely in Latvia last year with Latvians registering hundreds of new Lada vehicles every month in 2015. However, in Estonia, there were no Lada vehicles sold.

In 2014 there were only 13 of Lada vehicles sold in Lithuania, while in 2013 sales totalled 69. In 2015, the two vehicles sold were both Lada SUVs, the Niva.
