"I am extremely grateful for taking the honorable position of vice-president at the NATO Parliamentary Assembly. The session also approved my report on Russia. I also expressed support to Ukraine's aspiration to host a NATO Parliamentary Assembly. A decision was finally made yesterday to hold the 2020 session in Kiev for the first time in history, therefore, today gives us a chance to celebrate Ukraine and observe its path towards becoming an important member of NATO," Juknevičienė said in a press release circulated by the parliament.

She specified enhancement of trans-Atlantic relations, active work with NATO aspirants Ukraine and Georgia, closer mutual understanding of threats southern Europe and the Baltic states are faced with as her main priorities.

The position of the assembly's vice-president provides an opportunity to take part in the work of the bureau that makes decisions crucial for the assembly. The assembly is headed by Italy's Paolo Ali who has five deputies.

The NATO Parliamentary Assembly is an interparliamentary organization where parliamentarians of NATO member-states along with associated members of the assembly and partners in other countries discuss political, security and economic issues vital to the entire Alliance.
