India is considering opening an embassy in Lithuania, Mobashar Akbar, the country's minister of state for external affairs, said in Vilnius on Thursday.

Yes, indeed, we are considering. And we hope that there will be substantive news soon," he told BNS at the Lithuanian Foreign Ministry.

Akbar would not say when the embassy might be opened.

"It requires more courage than I have to actually define a time limit for a government," he said.

The minister of state is the second-ranking official in the Indian ministry after the minister.

Currently, the Indian ambassador to Lithuania resides in Warsaw.
